Avian Influenza (AI / AI) attacked the poultry in Tulungagung since the end of September 2003 up to now. Tulungagung District Government through the Department of Animal Husbandry has taken various policies and measures to prevent outbreaks of AI cases in Tulungagung, with AI vaccination in chickens in sectors 3 and 4, spraying disinfectant in poultry markets, poultry abattoir, poultry cages and areas affected AI. Besides, in order to break the chains of transmission of AI disease, all around the chicken traders in Tulungagung required to improve biosekurity to always do the spraying in time for departures and the times when visiting the breeder and when I get home. These activities are expected to minimize the incidence of AI disease.
Currently, public awareness againts handling increasing incidence of AI, it can be seen from the rapid incoming reports from the community to the Village, District, Department of Animal Husbandry, Public Health Service, Technical Officer Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, health center and team PDSR if found birds died suddenly. People in the location kejadianpun enthusiastic in handling this incident AI, together with a team from the Department concerned and also village officials, spraying disinfectant. With the good coordination between the Department associated with the team with village officials, the incidence of AI will soon be handled properly and not to spread to surrounding areas.
Outbreaks of bird flu (Avian Influenza: AI) has now become a global issue. Handling a serious need to be taken for bird flu outbreak did not mutate into a flu that spreads from human to human and become a pandemic influenza pandemic (Pandemic Influenza: PI). Losses that occur if the bird flu virus becomes contagious flu from human to human would be a huge economic losses due to the many birds that must be destroyed, loss of social costs because many people are sick and even die in Indonesia.
Given the dynamically developing bird flu and the situation is always changing, it is necessary to implement the activities that are innovative and tailored to the development of the situation. One of those efforts is the dissemination of information about bird flu prevention and control through various activities with the general public and educational objectives.
Tulungagung related challenges faced by bird flu issue is still very large. From the data obtained in the Office of Health and Animal Husbandry Department Tulungagung during 2008, as many as 1914 birds were found dead from the 9504 population of tail (20.14%)
Conditions like these can be controlled through an integrated intervention to carry out activities that includes people from various groups (public, educational, religious and women's roles).
Recognizing the above, Tulungagung government has given attention in the field of prevention and control of Avian Influenza by performing some activities, through the related sectors, among others, Bappeda, Public Health Service, Animal Husbandry Department, private and the public through the empowerment of Religious Leaders / Community and the Organization of Women. The emphasis of all activities is to enhance community participation in all phases of activity with fully implement community empowerment approach.
The purpose of prevention and control of Avian Influenza in Tulungagung districts are fully implementing the National Strategy used in the preparation of guidelines for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation related to efforts to control bird flu in both animals and humans.
